So did you talk to Dawson, I thought about you today after I left I figured you were talking to him about it. Why did you feel like you needed to go through him with it...Becky & Gayla I could see but Dawson doesn't really have much to do with the tech training. Anyway, I think you have some great ideas and look forward to seeing them used. :) Dee

Share your ideas!!! I'm teaching a technology class for teachers this week and I'm still amazed at the lack of technology available in many schools and the many obstacles teachers face in integration. Yesterday we spent time looking at the obstacles and brainstorming solutions. I have spent too many hours sitting in classes, meetings, and workshops where we talk about the problems and not the solutions. While we didn't solve all the problems of the world, we did come up with good ideas to help each person with their obstacles.

Glad you felt that way. I liked that you were able to talk with so many and clarify your understandings. I certainly hoped you felt comfortable sharing your ideas with anyone. I know I can speak for those I associate with that they are all interested in all voices and find new voices refreshing. Thanks for saying hi.

I'm glad you had such a great time at NECC and made so many professional connections. You must know for sure now that you are not alone. Lots of people share your goals, barriers, triumphs, and classroom experiences.

Did you watch the closing keynote? If so, could you blog about it? I'd be very interested in hearing your thoughts.

@sylvia- I may be wrong on the policy thing, so you may have no need to stand corrected. I just finished reading a reply from ISTE that basically said the policy has always been there...I just can't seem to find it anywhere online...perhaps it's all in the way you read the legal notice, and they are just now getting around to making it clear because they are anticipating so much more of it this year. I do understand that ISTE is the biggest game in town, and I do have some ideas that I will share with them concerning the organization and pre-planning of podcasting and ustreaming sessions. I think other conferences will be waiting to see how this all plays out for sure. I guess only time will show the ripple effect.

You caught me on two "thinking out loud" comments about what ISTE's motivations might be for this policy. I stand corrected on both of them.

However, I think ISTE is still the biggest game in town for tech educators, so since you are now a member, why not step up and tell them what you think the policy should be? It's not set in stone.

And as far as a chilling effect on other conferences, I wonder if it will be exactly the opposite. This increased awareness of the fine print that everyone typically ignores may change smaller conference's policies for the better, as they make sure they are seen as progressive and responsive.

I know I know less than others! Even in my classes, where I am paid to be a teacher, I am on equal footing with all the learners. I tell them emphatically that I am not their teacher, that we are all learners here, and I mean it! This gives many middle school students a confidence to learn because they find I will not tell them they are wrong. Those who want to view me as teacher are really not viewing it so, they just like to call me that. Those are the ones for whom I am already the guide on the side. It is those entrenched in the industrial pinnings of 'school', or schooliness like clay burell says, that I seek to reach. And it works, as the class average attests. What is the average? A-, so I have some work to do. We are all learners here!

I hope you do come to Educon2.1 - Philly is great fun! I was very excited to attend virtually last year. This year I don't know about ticks, but the wind is gone from my sails.
